We offer a variety of programs for children of all ages, including after-school care, Holiday clubs and ad hoc childcare for your little ones. Our core values are embedded into everything we do to help children develop social skills, build self-confidence, and learn new things.
An All About Me is where we really get to know the child, their likes and dislikes, their eating/sleeping habits, and all other things that make the child their own developing person.
Our sessions are then designed based on the needs and likes of each child. We plan our activities with education in mind, focussing on accessibility, equity and exploration. As children grow in our services, we adapt activities to match your child's changing preferences and needs.
We encourage positive behaviour and habits, and put an emphasis on choice and developing the skills necessary for decision making and thriving in all stages of early and young development.
As a non-discriminatory, trauma informed, and a rights-based service we put your child first. We understand every child is different and will have different needs. We accept all children age 2 - 12, regardless of background, stage of development, ability, race, religion, (subject to availability of spaces).
Our practitioners have a range of skills and experiences, from working with non-verbal children, children with physical disabilities, children from migrant families, and more.
We raise awareness and educate our children on various cultural and religious observances. We do not force an ideology on anyone, but instead give children the space to learn that other people exist in the world and that everyone is important.
For example, we will talk about the significance of the Easter Holiday and Lent, what Ramadan means, why the Lunar New year is celebrated, what PRIDE is and why families can look different and many more.
We understand how wonderful raising a family is, but we also appreciate how stressful it can be at times. We all want the best for our young ones and so parents and carers are involved at all stages of our services. We ask all parents to complete an 'All About Me' with their child (we know time isn't always on our side as families and so we can do this for parents on site or support parents as much as possible in completing this).
We give parents information on behaviour, activities engaged with and eating habits during handover at the end of every session. We are currently developing and trialling use of various apps that will allow for digital sharing of information and provide automatic updates.
As our journey progresses we will open up more services for parents and families. These will include resources and support for parents, including parenting classes, advice and advocacy services, and access to community resources. Our goal is to help families succeed and feel part of a community.
All provisions have a secluded outdoor space for playing and learning. Our Explorers will also go out on walks and visits to parks and surrounding greenspaces. These outings will be a few times a week and as the weather improves as many times as possible. Where possible we will encourage our young ones to find an 'outdoor space' where we will base a morning or afternoon, and children can envision and create a learning space of their own.
We are currently developing our Haddington Explorers outdoor space into a sensory garden. As the garden progresses we will also create an edible garden section where children can learn about and grow their own vegetables.
We host a variety of events throughout the year, including holiday parties, family fun days, and cultural celebrations. These events are open to everyone in our Thrive family and provide a great opportunity to connect and have fun.
We welcome volunteers of all ages to help us with our programs and events. Whether you want to help with fundraising, or assist with administrative tasks, we have a role for you.
Breakfast (Explorers only) and a substantial snack are included in our fees. We provide all food in line with suggestions and regulations on the Care /inspectorate's Setting the Table. We also strive to cater to all dietary requirements and where this is difficult we will discuss with parents.
We serve food as a rolling table. This allows children to have the option to chose their own food.
We ask parents to provide a packed lunch for full day registrations and the holiday club. Children who are with us for a half day, we kindly ask parents to feed their child lunch after pick up or before drop off. We are happy to discuss details further and find solutions that work for you
